Homemade Caramel Sauce

Jump to Recipe - Print Recipe

Why should you make your own caramel sauce? Well, for starter it is delicious! You can drizzle it on your morning latte with a bit of homemade vanilla syrup or on your homemade vanilla ice cream to make the perfect Sunday! Also, by making homemade caramel sauce you will make sure it only contains ingredients you know. Most of store bought caramel sauces contain additives, food colouring and flavour (which could be anything!). My homemade caramel sauce only has 4 organic ingredients that you probably already have at home!

Ingredients you’ll need

Like I said earlier, my homemade caramel sauce recipe only calls for 4 ingredients:

  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Whipping cream
  • Butter

How to make Caramel Sauce

Making caramel sauce is pretty easy and only takes a few minutes!

In a small sauce pan, bring sugar and water to a boil over medium heat.

When it reaches a nice caramel colour remove from the heat and add the cream all at once.

It will boil a lot so be careful! Stir until it stops boiling and add the butter.

Stir until the butter is melted and voila! You have your homemade caramel sauce!

Store it in a jar in the fridge and enjoy any time you want!

What to do with your homemade caramel sauce

Well, this part is up to you! But as I said before, ice cream and coffee (or both) are always a good idea!

Crepes, waffles, french toasts and pancakes can be even more delicious with caramel and whipped cream!

This sauce can also be a wonderful cake topping! You could even use it warm to make a drip cake!

Cream puffs can also be topped with caramel to make a delicious and original dessert!

Let me know in the comments section if you have any other ideas!
