What is grenadine and why should you make some? Well, grenadine is a pomegranate syrup and it is delicious! As an adult, you could use it in cocktails or mocktails! When I was a kid it was a treat! We would drink it with water and a few ice cubes on a hot summer day! Now, when I take my daughter back home in France she always asks for it in her kid’s meal whenever we go to a restaurant! But it’s pretty hard to find here in North America and she has been asking for some ever since we got back from our last trips. So I decided to make her some! I tried a few ways to make it at home and I’ll share my two favourite ones. So here is my homemade pomegranate syrup recipe!
Ingredients you’ll need to make Grenadine
Ok, like in pretty much all my recipes, you’ll only need a few natural organic ingredients. And here is the list (if I can call this a list!):
- Pomegranate
- Sugar
How to make Pomegranate Syrup
Like I said before, I tried a few recipe to make sure I’ll find the one that will taste the most like my childhood. And here are my two favourites.
Super simple recipe to make homemade grenadine
- Cut your pomegranates and remove the arils.
- Crush the arils with a potato masher or anything heavy.
- Cover with sugar and place in the fridge over night.
- In the morning, strain your pomegranate syrup.
My favourite recipe for homemade pomegranate syrup.
- Cut your pomegranates and remove the arils.
- Place the arils in a blender and pulse a couple of times, just to break the arils not to blend it.
- Strain through a fine mesh sieve.
- Measure how much pomegranate juice you have and add half of sugar (I add 500ml so I added 250g of sugar). I know, this is not math but it works!
- Place in a small sauce pan over medium high heat and bring to a boil.
- Cook for a few minutes.
- Keep in the fridge and use whenever you want!
