Homemade Laundry Detergent

Liquid and dry homemade laundry detergent

Commercial Laundry Detergent is full of harmful chemicals that end up in the environment and on our skin. So I decided to learn how to make homemade laundry detergent! It only takes a handful of ingredients and it’s pretty easy!

I chose to use Marseille Soap because for me this is the best and more versatile soap that ever existed! I use it all the time to remove hard to clean stains and it works very well! Also, this is from my hometown of Marseille so you know!

I made two different batches: one liquid, that’s good for the all family and a dry one for dirty clothes and clothes that needs whitening.

Liquid Laundry Detergent

Ingredients:

  • 75g (1 cup) of Marseille soap flakes
  • 60g (3 tbsp) of baking soda
  • 40g (3tbsp) of soda ash
  • 2L of boiling water

Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, pour the boiling water onto the soap flakes and let it dissolve it might take a while but that’s ok you don’t have to stick around for that part (around 2h).
  • Then add the baking soda and the soda ash and mix until everything is incorporated.
  • It should thicken a lot!
  • Use it as you do any laundry detergent.

Dry Detergent

Ingredients:

  • 100g (1 1/4 cup) of Marseille soap flake
  • 120g (1/2 cup) of baking soda
  • 60g (1/4 cup) of soda ash
  • 40g (2 tbsp) of sodium percarbonate

Instructions:

  • Mix everything and put it in a jar!
  • Use a couple spoons full of your homemade laundry detergent!
