If your kids are into dolls you know that, even with a great deal on imagination, you still need a few accessories! But if, like me, you don’t want to buy every single items in the store, there are a few things you can DIY! My daughter loves her dolls! But at bath time, she needs them to become mermaids (totally understandable!). Here is a little tutorial on how to make a doll mermaid tail using balloon form the dollar store!
Supplies you’ll need
Once again, this is super simple! You’ll only need… drum roll please…
- A couple of balloons (let your kids pick the colours)
- A pair of scissors
- A Sharpie (if you want to draw scales on the tail, but it’s up to you!)
And that’s it!
How to make a Doll Mermaid Tail
Once you (or your kids) decided on the balloons colours it’s time to cut!
Cut the top and bottom of the first ballon, the one that you’ll use for the bigger part of the tail. That’s it for that part!
It’s time to cut the second ballon, the one that you’ll use for the top of the outfit and the bottom of the tail. Cut the bottom of the balloon to make a tube top. And the top of the ballon in a V shaped to create the end of the tail. Cut a little piece of the ballon to make a little bow on the tube top.
How to dress your doll as a Mermaid
That part is a little tricky and I find it easier when in the water.
Put the tube top on first. Then tie the bow in the middle.
Then, the bigger part of the tail goes on the doll’s hips.and the narrow part on the ankles.
The little V shaped ballon goes on the ankles to make it perfect!
And voila! Your doll is now a mermaid!
