This year, fro Halloween, my daughter wanted to be a Fancy Cheetah! In her 5 years old mind that meant a Cheetah with a long princess dress! So that’s what we did! I bought some Cheetah fabric and made her a tail, a pair or ears and a long Cheetah dress! I made the dress from scratch but you don’t have to! This DIY Cat Costume can work for any kind of cat (cat, cheetah, lion, tiger, lynx, panther…) with any kind of dress or pants or whatever outfit you choose! If you want to make a pair of ears and a tail in a few minutes with no skills at all, keep reading!

How to make a DIY Cat Costume
DIY Cat Tail
Fold your long rectangle of fabric in half lengthwise, print side inside. Sew along the long side to close the rectangle, leaving one side open and closing the other side with a roundish end. Flip the fabric inside out.
Fill the cat tail with foam.
Bend the end of the wire and make a little spiral so it doesn’t go through the fabric.
Place the wire inside the tail and bend it the shape you want.
You could simply sew the tail on your costume but we go trick or treating with our car so I need to be able to remove the tail in order to fit my kid in her car seat. So here is how to make your tail removable.
Measure the size of your kid’s waist (or yours) and cut the elastic and sew the end to make a circle.
Place the elastic inside the open end of the tail. Sew the end of the tail to secure the the elastic inside.
That’s it! You now have a beautiful homemade Cat Tail for Halloween!
DIY Cat Ears
You could go with the obvious choice and attach your ears to a hairband.
We decided to go with single ears so my daughter could wear her hair the way she wanted.
Cut 4 little pieces of fabric the shape of your cat ears plus extra at the bottom and on the sides.
Place two pieces together print side inside. Leave the bottom open.
Flip the fabric inside out.
Fill your ears with foam.
Fold the bottom and close them using your hot glue gun. Allow to cool down.
Glue your little ears on the hair clips.
That’s it!
