Commercial Laundry Detergent is full of harmful chemicals that end up in the environment and on our skin. So I decided to learn how to make homemade laundry detergent! It only takes a handful of ingredients and it’s pretty easy!
I chose to use Marseille Soap because for me this is the best and more versatile soap that ever existed! I use it all the time to remove hard to clean stains and it works very well! Also, this is from my hometown of Marseille so you know!
I made two different batches: one liquid, that’s good for the all family and a dry one for dirty clothes and clothes that needs whitening.
Liquid Laundry Detergent
Ingredients:
- 75g (1 cup) of Marseille soap flakes
- 60g (3 tbsp) of baking soda
- 40g (3tbsp) of soda ash
- 2L of boiling water
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, pour the boiling water onto the soap flakes and let it dissolve it might take a while but that’s ok you don’t have to stick around for that part (around 2h).
- Then add the baking soda and the soda ash and mix until everything is incorporated.
- It should thicken a lot!
- Use it as you do any laundry detergent.
Dry Detergent

- 100g (1 1/4 cup) of Marseille soap flake
- 120g (1/2 cup) of baking soda
- 60g (1/4 cup) of soda ash

Instructions:
- Mix everything and put it in a jar!
- Use a couple spoons full of your homemade laundry detergent!
