Did you know you can make delicious lasagna over a campfire? Well, I didn’t know either! But it changed our life! Especially during late summer and fall camping! This Campfire Dutch Oven Lasagna is so comforting after a day of hiking or swimming in a lake or a river!
Ingredients you’ll need
Well, this campfire lasagna is made like any other lasagna! I usually skip the bechamel sauce and replace it with a bit of whipping cream. Also, I make my homemade tomato sauce at home before living and bring a few jars with us in the camper but you could use store bought tomato sauce if you prefer!
We use meat in our lasagna but if you wanted to make it vegetarian, you could replace the ground beef with a few veggies like eggplants, peppers, zucchinis, mushrooms…
Here is the list of the ingredients you’ll need for this dutch oven lasagna:
- Ground beef (or veggies)
- Tomato sauce
- Lasagna pasta
- Cheese
- Whipping cream (or bechamel sauce)
How to make Campfire Dutch Oven Lasagna
First make you fire! You’ll need to make a nice fire and let it die so plan ahead!
In a skillet, cook your ground beef over the fire or on a barbecue!
Make layers of lasagna pasta, meat (or veggies), tomato sauce starting with the sauce then the pasta then the meat and sauce and pasta again until the last layer of pasta.
Cover with whipping cream or béchamel sauce.
Top with cheese then bake.
How to cook Lasagna in a campfire
Once the fire is out, place a few stone or a grill grate on the hot coals. Place your dutch oven on top.
Grab some hot coals or hot stones and place them on the lid of the dutch oven.
Bake until the pastas are cooked through and the cheese is melted.
And voila! Your campfire lasagna are done!
